Cambridge Savings Bank celebrates 175 years with donations to area nonprofits
To commemorate its 175th Anniversary, Cambridge Savings Bank will give $175,000 to community based nonprofit organizations across Eastern Massachusetts through the Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation. The highlight of this donation is a Signature Gift of $100,000, split equally among four nonprofits that support local communities, and a Community Gift Contest that allows the public to award $75,000 to local housing nonprofits. Every person who votes in the contest is eligible to win a luxury Harvard Square Getaway Weekend.

“Cambridge Savings Bank is pleased to be in a very strong financial position, which allows us to commemorate our 175th anniversary through support for local non-profit organizations,” said Robert M. Wilson, President/CEO of Cambridge Savings Bank. “We are proud to celebrate this milestone and participating non-profit organizations.”
With more than $2 billion in assets, Cambridge Savings Bank has built itself into one of the largest community banks in Massachusetts by adhering to the same values it was built upon in 1834: prudent lending to local businesses and consumers and an emphasis on customer service and community involvement.

The four nonprofits that received Signature Gifts of $25,000 were the Housing Corporation of Arlington along with CCC members Homeowners Rehab Inc., Just-A-Start and The Salvation Army.

The Community Gift Contest will guarantee ten local nonprofits gifts of at least $5,000, with the grand prize determined through a community “competition” where members of the public can vote for their favorite non-profit at www.cambridgesavings.com. The non-profit with the most votes will win a $20,000 grant, with the next top two vote getters each receiving $10,000. The remaining nonprofits will all receive Community Gifts of $5,000 apiece. Cambridge Savings Bank will announce the winners in January 2010.
CCC member Cambridge Housing Assistance Fund (CHAF) is one of the nonprofits competing in the community gift contest. CHAF seeks to end homelessness by assisting individuals in obtaining permanent housing.

The other nonprofits competing include: Homeowners Options for Massachusetts Elders of Acton, Belmont & Burlington, Caritas Communitie, Bedford Vets Quarters, Lexington Housing Partnership, National Center for Family Homelessness, Watertown Community Housing.

Place your vote now—anyone who votes can register to win a luxury Harvard Square Getaway Weekend, including a night at the Charles Hotel, dinner for two at Harvest Restaurant, passes to the Harvard Art Museums, an “Unofficial” Harvard Tour and gift certificates to local boutiques, shops and theaters.
