Average annual salary $26,400-$35,000 The clinical portion of this course will prepare students
to assist physicians in the back office. Initial core instruction includes medical health records,
medical law and ethics, applied medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and safety and
medical office emergencies. Also covers assisting with minor office surgery, instruments and
their care, PFT testing, EKG testing, glucose and strep tests, pharmacology, basic laboratory
procedures with collection and handling of specimens including venipuncture essentials and
medical asepsis. Also included, instruction in CPR, and basic metrics. This class is free
of charge due to a special grant with the San Diego Workforce Partnership Prerequisite:

Nurse Assistant / Acute Care 1/4-2/4 $250

Course provides upgraded advanced training in nurse assistant and acute care. Jobs in the
field include nurse assistant positions in skilled nursing facilities, sub-acute units and acute
care hospitals. Instruction will cover the following areas: a review of basic nursing skills,
skills in pediatric care, pre/post-operative care and obstetrics. To complete course, 140 hours
of attendance are needed, (70 hrs. theory; 70 hrs. clinical). Prerequisite: Must be State
Certified as a Nurse Assistant, (CNA). Please call 739-7309, regarding future classes.
Nurse Assistant and Home Health Aide

Course provides entry level training leading to nurse assistant and home health aide
certification. Instruction covers basic nursing skills, medical terminology, basic anatomy and
physiology, ethics and safety. Included are classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences.
Upon successful completion of both, students are qualified to take the state written and clinical
examinations. Home Health Aide consists of 20 hours theory and 20 hours clinical, covering
the following; Intro to Aide & Agency Role, interpretation of medical and social needs of clients.
Personal care services, nutrition, and cleaning and care tasks in the home are covered as
well as changing bed linen, preparing meals, assisting in and out of bed, bathing, dressing,
and grooming. Prerequisite: Successful completion of basic reading comprehension
test is required prior to admission. “Call in Date” is October 12, beginning at 9:00am
to schedule your reading test. Test is limited to the first 80 callers. A registration
processing fee of $175 is to be paid at the time of registration.

Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

This course provides entry-level training in geographic information systems. Instruction
includes GIS computer systems including ARCMAP, ARXVIEW, Google Earth, ArcCatalogue,
Arc Toolbox and an introduction to using and understanding GPS handheld units, plotters
and printers for the above listed functions. Approximately 180 hours are needed to complete
this course. Important note: A registration processing fee of $50 is to be paid at the
time of registration. (No fee for high school students).
