KAYAK ANGLER BREAKS RECORD WITH $20,000 KAYAK BASS FISHING CHALLENGE

BY TIM SHUFF

his season kayak anglers are hitting bass waters across the country with dollar

signs in their eyes. Kayak Angler magazine and KayakBassFishing.com have teamed up to of- fer the largest-ever cash prize in kayak fishing history. Te Kayak Angler Magazine $20,000 State Record Challenge offers a massive pay- out to anyone who can beat a state bass record from a kayak. “We’re putting our money on kayak bass

fishing,” said Kayak Angler publisher Scott MacGregor. “Te American Sportfishing Asso- ciation says one out of three freshwater fisher- men in the United States fishes for largemouth bass. Even if our Challenge convinces a small percentage of them to jump in and discover the benefits of bass fishing from kayaks, this sport is going to explode.” A cash prize will go to the first person in the country to beat a state record for large-

mouth, smallmouth, spotted, shoal, Suwannee or Guadalupe bass. “We will be awarding $10,000 for large-

mouth, $5,000 for smallmouth and $1,000 for each of the subspecies if you break the official state record while fishing from the kayak,” said Challenge organizer Chad Hoover of Kayak- BassFishing.com. To qualify, anglers must receive acknowledge-

ment from the state’s official game agency, which they then submit to KayakBassFishing.com along with a photograph of the fish with their kayak, and a statement that the fish was pursued, hooked and landed from a kayak. Te fish must be caught on a rod, reel and line using artificial bait. To be eligible, anglers must have an account

at KayakBassFishing.com and a subscription to Kayak Angler. “Both must be active for at least 48 hours prior to submission to prevent some- one from catching a fish and then subscrib-

ing and registering,” said Hoover, who advises anglers to start poring over the record books. “If you are going to break a state record, you need to know what it is. So, review the records for your state. If you don’t, you could very well break it and not even know.” Prizes will be awarded next February at the

2010 Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo in Bir- mingham, Alabama. Full challenge details are available at KayakAnglerMag.com and Kayak- BassFishing.com.
