Area trivia
Jimmy Hendrix and Handel both lived here. The
musical revolutionaries lived next door to each other
– two centuries apart. Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton
also lived here.
The shape of Lancashire Court is dictated by the
River Tyburn, which still flows under Avery Row.
In the 13th century, water for the City of London was
supplied from here.
Avery Row is named after the bricklayer, Henry
ai
r
Avery, who, in the 1720s, built the sewer through
which the Tyburn now flows.
