ur theme this year is “Celebrating BCC: Progress and Promise.” In
the five years that I have been associated with the BCC Foundation,
I have personally witnessed the progress undertaken with the leadership
of Dr. Carolyn Williams as well as the excitement about the future that
permeates the campus. Our awardees tonight reflect BCC’s proud history,
its continuing commitment to community service, and its optimistic view
towards the future.
Since she joined BCC’s Nursing Department over forty years ago
Dr. Alice P. Fuller has been a major force in BCC’s success. Her dedication
to the highest educational standards combined with energy, compassion,
and a dose of humor have inspired generations of students and faculty.
BCC alumna Dr. Monica Sweeney’s contribution to the health of
all of New York’s citizens is legendary. She has been in the forefront of
carrying the message that AIDS is preventable with good information. Her
medical expertise and fearless advocacy have saved many lives, and given
hope to all.
Senior Vice Chancellor Jay Hershenson has been a devoted
supporter of BCC for many decades. His tireless efforts, mostly behind the
scenes, have supported many initiatives both large and small on behalf of
all of our students. His vision, tenacity, and dedication are behind the new
North Instructional Building and Library which will grace our campus in
2011.
Thank you for joining our celebration and for supporting our next
generations of students.
