Looking forward, Portio Research estimates that the Asia Pacific market will grow by a
further 980 million subscribers from 2007 to 2011. This indicates that the size of the
customer base within the APAC region is expected to become enormous in the future,
due mainly to the relatively large population size of the region in a global context. This
growth is also reflected in other developing regions such as Latin America and Africa,
which are both estimated to grow in size by 131 million and 188.5 million subscribers
respectively from 2007 to 2011.

In 2007 almost half (44.1%) of global subscribers were residents of the Asia Pacific region,
followed by Europe at a 27.1% share. The US accounts for 9% of the global mobile market.
Based on the additional subscriber numbers shown in figure 1.3 it can be estimated that
Asia Pacific subscribers will make up 50.9% of the global mobile population in 2011.
