1.1 Mobile subscriber base grows globally

The global mobile market continues grow with a 13.7% increase in the volume of
subscribers from 2007 to 2008. The Global market reached about 3.5 billion users in
2008 and is projected to continue to grow to reach about 4.6 billion by 2011, with CAGR
of 9.4%. Asia Pacific currently has the highest volume of subscribers with 1,357.5 million
subscribers in 2007.

In absolute numbers the Asia Pacific market leads, up by 655 million subscribers in 2007
compared to 2004. The North & Western European region follow Asia Pacific in volume
terms and by 2007 reached a total of about 437.9 million. Central & Eastern Europe have
also experienced good growth and in 2007 the region reached almost the same number
of subscribers as N & W Europe. The US and Latin American regions have a slightly
lower volume of subscribers, around 300 million each. However, although with low base
numbers, the Middle East has experienced the fastest growth with a CAGR of 43.3%
followed by Africa with a 38.4% CAGR (2004-2007).
