Is your customers’ information safe in your hands?
Do you take credit cards from your customers? Do you maintain information on your vendors and clients? Is identity theft a concern of yours? If you answered “Yes,” or even “Maybe” to any of these questions, the Business Brief on March 24 is for you.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has issued a new regulation that requires all people who own, license, store or maintain personal information about a resident of the Commonwealth to meet specific security standards. This regulation goes into effect at the end of 2009. The size of your business does not matter; the number of customers you process is irrelevant. This impacts nearly every business in Massachusetts as well as businesses outside of the state who collect information on Massachusetts residents.
Major requirements include:
•A written data security plan
•Identification of records that contain personal information
•Encryption standards for electronic data (including credit cards)
Learn from the experts. Get the general, legal and IT facts from panelists David Murray, General Counsel, and Gerry Young, Chief Information Officer of the MA Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation; Timothy Mahoney of Abrams Little-Gill Loberfeld PC; and Dean Gabbert of CMIT Solutions.
