Walk a 5K on April 5 to benefit BARCC
The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) fourth annual Walk for Change will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Canal Park. This 5K awareness and benefit walk along the banks of the Charles River gets bigger and better every year. The 2009 goals are to attract 1,000 walkers, raise $100,000 to support BARCC services and take a giant step forward in ending sexual violence. Inn’s HR Director wins MLA award
The Best Western Inn at Longwood’s Human Resources Director Thomas Kopaczynski won the prestigious Stars of the Industry Manager of the Year award on February 27, 2009, from the Massachusetts Lodging Association (MLA). Tom will go on to the American Hotel and Lodging Association National Awards, to be held on June 24, 2009. He spearheads many of the hotel’s charitable events such as the annual food drive and Children’s Hospital blood drive. The Inn at Longwood also had three other employees nominated for awards, including General Manager Brian Stiglets.
Ambit Press offers free classes

NCFO premieres “The Weaver’s Wedding”
The North Cambridge Family Opera (NCFO) celebrates its tenth anniversary season with the American premiere of Chincha-chancha Cooroo, or The Weaver’s Wedding, on Saturday, March 28 and April 4 at 3 and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 29 and April 5 at 2 and 6 p.m. at the Peabody School in Cambridge. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. An intergenerational cast of 120 from Cambridge and surrounding communities and ranging in ages of six to 82 will perform the two-act family opera. Emerge Celebrates its 30th Anniversary
Emerge celebrates its 30th Anniversary at the world’s first abuser education program on March 26. The event takes place at the Cambridge Boat Club on Memorial Drive from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The sponsors include Mayor Denise Simmons, Police Commissioner Robert Haas, Representative Timothy Toomey, Representative Alice Wolf, Congressman Michael Capuano, Governor Deval Patrick and Senator John Kerry, among many others.
