5. IT WAS A THREE-
PERSON PROJECT
Once we started writing, I’d
write a section, incorporate
my mom’s edits, and then
we’d give it to my dad. We
would then sit around a table
and my dad would read it out
loud having never read it.
That gave us an opportunity
to make sure it sounded like
him. He would edit it verbally
and I would have my laptop
there ready to make notes.
After reading the section
aloud, I would incorporate
what my dad said, and then we
would read it again in bigger
sections.
6. MY MOM WAS THE
UNSUNG HERO
My mom spent as much time
as me on the book. She’s a
great editor and she’s got a
way with words, she can really
express things well. She has
a huge vocabulary that I envy
sometimes, too! The thing
that’s really cool is she doesn’t
care that her name’s not on the
cover or that people think that
my dad and I just wrote this
book together.
7. I FOUND A DEEPER 8. ...AND WRITING THE BOOK
RESPECT FOR MY DAD... CHANGED OUR RELATIONSHIP.
During the process, I found a new, deeper Just as I found a new respect for my dad, he’s
