National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
The NEBOSH National General Certificate is a qualification designed Delivered by:
to help those with health and safety responsibilities (e.g. managers,
supervisors and employees representatives) to discharge more
effectively their organisational duties and functions. The course
leads to the award of National General Certificate. No previous
health and safety knowledge is required but students must be able
to write short reports.
The duration of study for the National General Certificate is
a minimum of 87 hours plus private study and background reading.

Assessment
Assessment is by an end examination comprising two written
papers (Papers A1 and A2) and a practical assessment (Part B). The S

The examination is held nationally four times a year and comprises
two 2-hour written papers (Papers A1 and A2) and a practical
assessment (Part B). Some centres may also offer “local”
examinations, set and marked by NEBOSH, but on a date of their
